Ne Touchez Pas 5 by Allison James

0960_0200_ItchioHeader.png

An extremely difficult game with one simple rule - do not touch.

In Ne Touchez Pas 5, you navigate 100 different levels with six different characters, all with unique control methods, attempting to reach the finish in one piece. Dodge deadly fans, evade eviscerating laser beams, and manoeuvre around moving segments, hit switches to open paths, collect optional bits and throw yourself through the void at the end of each level to progress.

Play as:

  • L'Oiseau, a french bird that flaps its little wings!

  • Jetpod, a tiny pilot with the lust for thrust!

  • Rockit, a rocket built for destruction but here to kick some walls!

  • Astro, an astronaut that doesn't know why they're here and is getting dizzy!

  • Car, with a full tank of petrol and a six digit milometer!

  • Square, just here to give people an easy mode!

Features 100 levels, 480 collectables, progress tracking, catchy music with a nostalgic easter egg for the four people that will remember the original Ne Touchez Pas games from the noughties, and a quit button for when you get stuck. You will probably get stuck.

Britskrieg by Allison James

0960_0200_ItchioHeader.fw.png

Queen Elizabeth II is bored of being stuck with the United Kingdom. She has recruited a unique foursome of watertight buddies - The Buddy Squad - to fix that for her. By taking over the world for Blighty.

Daniel Johnston is the Welsh-ish eco-warrior with a thirst for violence - renewable violence. Mark Alexander is the Spanish Scot whose number one priority is to look cool in victory. Allison James is English, scared of loud noises, but is happy to wage war if it means she ends up with a bigger home. And the Irishman Darrell Flood? He just wants to watch the world burn.

Command the Buddy Squad's four armies around a map of the world blitzing capital cities, weakening or recruiting enemies, building British towns everywhere they go, and keeping a steady flow of troops in their midst as they conquer every square.

Britskrieg mixes strategy with idle game, and a sprinkling of education - every sovereign state that's a member of the UN in its own right (thank you Richard Osman) is represented, as well as their capitals with rough locations and their 2018 populations. And there's also a little bit of patriotism. But only a little bit. Because British patriotism is British pessimism.

Contains no Brexit humour. Breathe a sigh of relief.

Gossamer Girls by Allison James

0960_0200_ItchioHeader.png

Kill spiders. Collect gossamer. Trip balls.

Gossamer Girls sees you, the newest member of the eponymous all-female taskforce, exploring ancient dungeons, untouched by humanity for generations and overrun by clusters of spiders that produce valuable gossamer.

Dungeons are procedurally generated, containing ever increasing quantities of spiders with escalating threat, and connected by falling sections in which you descend through dangerous but rewarding neon tunnels. Start off with a randomly generated character and upgrade her through chests found on floors and powerups found in the falls between, all the while collecting as much gossamer as you can, using some as ammunition to defeat threats.

Also features a dynamic soundtrack that fades tracks in and out for each floor and fall, because I'm an idiot and decided that a time-constrained game jam was the first time to experiment with it.

Created for #LOWREZJAM 2018.

Maddening Euphoria by Allison James

0960_0200_ItchioHeader.png

Ever feel like you're running around in circles?

Maddening Euphoria is a unique, challenging arcade game with randomly generated level design, in which you control brother and sister duet Mason and Millicent Zane as they flee from their own imagined realisation of their troubles in life - an inescapable wall of death - while avoiding bottomless pits, deadly spikes and speed-reducing pools of thick goo. Keep within spitting distance of the wall to receive a short, colourful Second Wind speed boost and gain the opportunity to be one eighth euphoric.

Not enough for you? Don your favourite fedora, go for eight pieces, and enter the multicoloured rainbow world of Euphoria where time goes even faster, spikes disappear and your survival speeds up dramatically. Or tackle some of the game's 150+ challenges ranging anywhere from trivially easy to borderline unfathomable.

Meanwhile, choose from 36 game themes (or throw it on Shuffle), each with themed poetry telling tales of your demise with anywhere from innocent whimsy to incomparable filth, and ranging from surprisingly clever to embarrassingly hideous. If you're English, Scottish, Welsh, Irish, German, Spanish, Japanese, American, or from Bristol or Norwich like we are, I apologise profusely. Also have the game mock your failures in one of 51 ways of varying levels of Britishness. And all of this while other people's highscores pop up and you wonder what some people do with their time.

This is the flashiest, fleshiest Maddening to date. It even has some diamondy bits. And you can turn those off if you're only in it for the circles.

Just don't buy it if you suffer from epilepsy. (Please.)

Super Fidget Spinner by Allison James

0960_0200_ItchioHeader.png

Super Fidget Spinner is the reason I, Allison James, shouldn't drink on a Tuesday. A desperate self-serving wake up call that I should stick to making fonts and actual games worth the time of the general public. And it is the result of a fascination with a small, inexpensive birthday present I received last week that I have since been unable to put down due to my lifelong obsession with stupid objects that don't do anything of value or productivity and are available in a range of colours, shapes, sizes and qualities. Four bearings set into a small chunk of cheap plastic and I'm dedicating time to program tributes to it. Good.

NAL Is Alive by Allison James

0960_0200_ItchioHeader.fw.png

Over 13 years, and over 130 games. All made by one hobbyist-turned-full-time developer. And now, for the first time, available in one cohesive package in the form of NAL Is Alive!

NAL Is Alive is a compendium containing everything by NAL, released under the NALGames pseudonym between 2003 and today, wrapped up in a launcher that also universally tracks your statistics and highscores for each game*, the latter being compared against the world in Steam-exclusive online leaderboards*.

Containing the good - Maddening Relapse 2! Hi Me Ro Me! Innoquous 4! Ne Touchez Pas! Prisnhax! Frankenfirearm! Lab Wagon!

And the bad - Aardvark Cwm! Gemocide! Clickfire!

...and almost everything inbetween! Ever wanted to work it on a pogo stick? SohoPogoHo hears you! Fancy going around peeing on people? Signal Failure! You can assume the role of a redhead killing your opposers of the world in Infidels, or become a little robot fixing the big robot it resides in with Titan Tighten.

Need a rhythm game fix while also improving your touch typing proficiency? Bullet Hills sees you typing to the music! Need a music game that has instead has no rhythm? Melodika gets you to suck a stream of icons into a recepticle to any track of your choosing! Need to inject yourself to help forget the nightmarous legion of female stalkers planning on kissing you to death? Yeah, that's in here too with Overly Attracted Stalkers. So's the one where you're a dog in a ball unloading clips of everything from water pistols to rocket shotguns at mutant bags of blood - Lyssandra and the Amplegores. And the one where you get to play an interactive advert for a fictional Japanese dish cleaner while a man touts its superior viscosity to you, Japanese Infomercial.

All of these and more, being taken through an ongoing process to bring them up to spec* - dropping the MIDI music from the really old stuff in favour of more listenable MP3s, knocking every game's resolution and FPS up to 1080p/60 (potentially again up to 4K in the future), improving their gameplay and their graphics, adding the aforementioned Steam leaderboards... you name it.

It's presented in a somewhat light-hearted way, and many of the games are pretty silly, but this pack truly does represent a huge chunk of my life - everything I made independently from being an 11 year old kid that had to download Game Maker 5.0 onto a school computer and bring it home on 3.5" floppy discs thanks to the speed of my home internet, to a currently 25 year old making games and other stuff full-time.

*Please note: not all games will support the update features during NAL Is Alive's Early Access development. As of writing, approx 80 games contain Steam Leaderboards, and approx 40 are completely upscaled to 1080p/60.

Won't You Be My Laser? by Allison James

0960_0200_ItchioHeader.fw.png

It's a beautiful day in this laserhood.
A beautiful day for a laser.
Won't you be my laser?

In Won't You Be My Laser, storm your way through 25 varied levels! Radical!

Race to the finish, avoiding sentient dystopian gun turrets that are, quite literally, loose cannons! Way past cool!

Push conveniently-sized crates filled with hovering skateboards, new formulas of your favourite colas and synthetic mullet wigs into the line of sight of those turrets to sneak past undetected! Killer!

Grab the pick-up sticks in each level, because entertainment doesn't get much better than that! Tubular!

And win as speedily as your fluorescent running shoes can take you to beat each star rating and win up to 5 stars in each level, because there's no such thing as 3 star ratings in the 80s - mobile phones, as you all well know, are only for telephoning your home landline and making your pants fall down when you forget your belt! So bad!

It's all there for you in Won't You Be My Laser, the fun, inexpensive little diversion set in the distant year 2000.

So pick up Won't You Be My Laser for just 99 of your American cents today!

Or buy it off of this weird internet thing that everyone's talking about. I'm not sure what it is, DOS doesn't think "cd internet" is a valid function.

Four Versus The World by Allison James

0960_0200_ItchioHeader.png

Turns out war changes.

In Four Versus The World, each adventure is unique. Travel from city to city with "The Four", the sole survivors of one of many possible catastrophes that took place shortly before the game's events.

Hunt for food, energy, health packs, skill points and car parts to keep yourselves, and your beloved vehicle, on the road.

Search scenery and dungeons and do your best not to die in the face of continuous, sometimes arbitrary dilemmas - each character only has one life; once they're dead, they're dead forever.

Make it to the final destination, the glorious British city of... well, it's different every time, just like everything else.

It's all tongue in cheek and profoundly British. Made in 72 hours for the July 2016 GMC Jam.

FKR10 by Allison James

0960_0200_ItchioHeader.fw.png

Every year since the dawn of time, assuming the dawn of time occurred in October 2007, Fantastic Kinetic Reflexes has reared its head and jumped into the world. Each instalment brings negligible improvements and sometimes even stupid graphical "enhancements".

And just because NAL Is Dead doesn't mean it's not happening again.

FKR10 sees you progress through time and each yearly instalment of the FKR virus, raiding computers as antivirus programs attempt to take you down.

The mouse moves the FKR virus. Attached to it, and continuously orbiting it, are a number of trojan horses - swing these into the defending antivirus programs to defeat them.

But don't be datablasted too much, or you'll be erased from the computer quicker than your browsing history when you think someone might gain access to it.

NAL Is Dead by Allison James

0960_0200_ItchioHeader.fw.png

12 years. 130 games. 90 WIPs. 220 fonts. 50 pages of info. Four e-magazines and even a goddamn LP. All made by one person. All in one pack.

NAL Is Dead is a retrospective pack containing everything by me released under the NAL/NALGames pseudonym between 2003 and the July 2015 formation of Chequered Ink Ltd, of which I am one of two founders.

Containing the good - Maddening Relapse! Hi Me Ro Me! Innoquous 4! Ne Touchez Pas! Prisnhax! Frankenfirearm!

And the bad - Aardvark Cwm! Gemocide! ExecutioNAL! Clickfire!

And everything inbetween! Ever wanted to be a prostitute on a pogo stick? SohoPogoHo hears you! Fancy going around peeing on people? Signal Failure! You can assume the role of a ginger killing the anti-gingers of the world in Infidels, or become a little robot fixing the big robot it resides in with Titan Tighten.

Need a rhythm game fix? Bullet Hills! Need a music game that has no rhythm? Melodika! Need to inject yourself to help forget the nightmarous legion of female stalkers planning on kissing you to death? Yeah, that's in here too. So's the one where you're a dog in a ball unloading clips of everything from water pistols to rocket shotguns at mutant bags of blood. And the one where you get to play an interactive advert for a fictional Japanese dish cleaner while a man touts its superior viscosity to you.

NAL Is Dead also contains every single completed/published font I ever made - that's over 220 fonts that have been downloaded across various sites over 10,000,000 times total, and used by and in various worldwide brands including WWE, NBA and Purina, and by notable musicians such as Flo Rida, KARA and Excision.

You can use them commercially if you're that way inclined, or just install them all and pretend you're the lord of fonts.

There are nearly 20 terrible, terrible music tracks I've made along the way too, along with four issues of my short-lived GameMaker-centric Rekame Mag e-magazine. And some of the games also contain WIP versions for your curiosity - if you've ever wanted to see the pre-final builds of games like madnessMADNESSmadness, Innoquous 4, or Infidels, they're all here for the first time ever.

And to cap it all, there's a chronologically-ordered PDF densely packed with information on each of the 130-ish games included in the pack, along with back-story, and information on the other stuff I made or did, including my five-year stint at YoYo Games, that time I got broadband, and that time I did over 200 fonts.

It's presented in a light hearted way, but this pack truly does represent a huge chunk of my life - everything I made independently from being an 11 year old kid that had to download GM onto a school computer and bring it home on 3.5" floppy discs thanks to the speed of my home internet, to a 24 year old jumping into the world of full-time indie.

Thank-you if you have been any part of it across those 12 years, and thank-you if you support this pack by throwing a little money at Chequered Ink - do note that every game included has been free before, you're paying for the retrospective, and the hundreds of hours it took me to compile this git, get old games working, and even remove blatant copyright infringement from a few of them! If you like fonts, this is an economic way of getting those all for commercial use as well.

Super Dynapogo by Allison James

0960_0200_ItchioHeader.png

Explosive pogo a-gogo!

The city of Dynaster is in ruins - an erupted volcano has flooded it with lava, and as a result, an evil government corporation has bought the land to level it into a hellish lava-moat-surrounded fortress.

But it's okay. You have a pogo stick. Not just any pogo stick, either: it's a Dynapogo! It has a stick of dynamite attached that remains intact when it explodes, allowing for infinite reuse. It explodes on contact with anything, so make sure you're pointed the way you want to go when you land!

Get as far as you can by exploding your way across the doomed Dynaster cityscape's rooftops. Watch as the final helpless and stranded Dynasterians are torn apart by the government's leveller, making sure you aren't killed by itself. And for the love of god, avoid the lava!

"I played the original Dynapogo. What's new?!"

Good question! This is an upgrade, not a sequel, so the core gameplay is the same. But Super Dynapogo has these upgrades on Dynapogo:

+ Game runs at 1080p and is fullscreen now - clearer graphics and no accidental clicking off-screen!
+ Game contains proper HUD elements - original was for a game jam with "no in-game text" as a restriction, so that's now rectified
+ HUD graphics have been polished
+ Everything's got a shadow now, because shadows are for cool people
+ Several new building types added, and tile variety added to new and previous buildings
+ Changed music

Maddening Relapse 2 by Allison James

0960_0200_ItchioHeader.png

With Mason Zane killed in a mysterious chain of events, his perception of the world in his alter ego Madd Mann seemed doomed to die. That is, until Daryl Schuhorne, a woman with an equally bizarre obsession for doing absolutely everything in a business suit with a vivid red tie, came along.

Run around in circles. Don't get killed by the wall, which is back in full force. Avoid having a spike introduce new holes into your ecosystem. You see that hole over there? Yeah, don't fall down it. And now, making their return from their appearance in 2010's Maddening, bounce off trampolines and try your best not to get slowed down in vats of thick goo!

Further improvements from Relapse 1 include the game running in native 1080p, tons of polish to everything, improved level generation bringing more variety to the table, and a new soundtrack by Meizong.

If you have a GameJolt account, Maddening Relapse 2 also contains 93 GameJolt achievements and global leaderboards. Sign in to receive them!

Innoquous 5 by Allison James

0960_0200_ItchioHeader.fw.png

Innoquous 5, the fifth in the game series that began with 2008's Innoquous, is a huge puzzle platformer... with a twist! Hit a gravity arrow or jump into a flipper and you can rotate gravity, opening new paths through each of the huge collection of levels!

Make your way through 175 levels (100 brand-spanking new to the game, 75 from Innoquous 4) riddled with alternative paths and shortcuts, encountering tens of obstacles, unique puzzles and a need to invent some bizarre strategies to finish them!

All 175 levels are playable in six game modes, for hundreds of hours of content:

  • Standard: Get to the exit. That's it.

  • Bunny Hunt: Find the hidden bunny trapped in a crate somewhere off the beaten track.

  • Conditional: Obey a certain restriction in finishing the level that will force you to undertake new routes.

  • Time Limit: Get to the exit as fast as you can to obtain a gold, silver or bronze medal.

  • Fiery Floors: Complete the level with added flooring and obstacles to make your life difficult.

  • Chaser: Complete the level while a deadly clone of you is always one second behind you.

On top of that, there are multiple groupings of the levels in both Speedrun and the new Permadeath mode, in which you either see how quickly you can complete the entire grouping, or see how many you can complete before you die.

Find the secret note in each of the new 100 levels. They're never clear - some will even require you to perish to obtain them!

Each one will unlock a line of a poem explaining how you found yourself in this bizarre world, who sent you here, and what happens next!

If you run out of levels, the game also comes with a full-featured level creator! Give your level a name, a creator, a description, and begin drawing! Place every obstacle found in the main game, give it a gold, silve and bronze time limit, a conditional objective, place the bunny somewhere, and generally do pretty much everything found in the main game!

You can then enter the Created Levels menu, where the game will display you all of your custom levels along with tracking completion, just as it does regular levels. Feel free to share your levels with others and build up a collection! (You can find your levels in %localappdata%\Innoquous_5 on Windows.)

Orbit Frenzy by Allison James

0960_0200_ItchioHeader.fw.png

You meet a race of aliens that are the friendliest in the world. They exist to love. There is no war.

One problem. They create Special Custard, a substance which to them is just a nutrient food. But to humanity, it grants extended life and is rich in minerals unseen on Earth.

You are Reginald Waft, a savvy British hipster businessman who's left it all - cheeky fried chicken with the lads, banter for days and even the occasional episode of your nearest soap opera with your mum - to ransack the planet. You might even take the concept of their planet and sell it to some British TV channel as a children's programme.

Go with your array of missiles that grapple onto things to steer, and also somehow collect the abundant Special Custard. Missile those cutesy swines before they sing you a song about learning things. And then get back to the lads back in Britain, drop a couple beers, re-curl your moustache and smash up the local gym.

Orbit Frenzy is the clean version of Telifrenzy, Allison James' (and by proxy, Chequered Ink's) entry into Ludum Dare 33.

Wakka wakka, motherlovers.

You're an innocent, dual-uzi-wielding bikini-clad girl trapped in a Japanese burial ground, and the inhabitants aren't having any of it.

Dash around, collecting ammunition for your uzis. Find new and exotic weapons: like the Katana that is made out of purest grade aluminium maybe! Or the flamethrower that is secretly powered by love! Or maybe you're more into the inner workings of the chainsaw, since you're a bit of a carpentry fanatic... or are delusional and think that all the enemies are trees.

Upload your highscore to GameJolt, and have the leaderboard and the flashing display of the global best score permanently remind you how much worse you are than everybody else! And earn GJ trophies if you're into that sort of thing, you filthmongerer.

1 Girl. 2 Cups. 3 of something.

Hm.

1 Girl 2 Cups came 9th in GMC Jam #19.
